We all know that the Irish know how to have a good time, and that is certainly something that our good folks at Party Travel Hotspots’ Dallas Lowdown appreciate to the utmost. For this reason, the North Texas Irish Festival coming up later this month is an event which is right up our alley and hopefully up yours as well.

The event will run from February 28 to March 2, and will feature a canine theme this year, celebrating the role of dogs in Irish culture. You’re welcome to bring your four-legged friend, whether of Irish heritage or not, as this event is come one come all when it comes to both canines and humans.

This year’s festival will be the 32nd annual, and will once again be the most grandiose celebration of Irish culture in the Southwest. On top of being unquestionably the greatest Irish celebration in the Southwest region, the festival is considered one of the best Irish cultural celebrations to be held in the US as a whole each year.

In keeping with the pet-friendly theme, there will be a pet pavilion in the Grand Building where many animal rescue groups in North Texas will be set up to support the cause of underprivileged animals in the Dallas area. Plenty of tasty traditional Irish foods will be available, including Irish Stew, Shepherd’s Pie, Fish and Chips, and other traditional Irish dishes. There will even be culinary presentations from top chefs creating Irish-fusion dishes to get your mouth watering. In addition to all this, you can expect Irish cultural performances, including Celtic music and dance, whiskey tastings, archery and blacksmithing demonstrations, and so much more, including plenty of child-friendly activities.

The festival hours are as follows and, the event will take place in Dallas’ Fair Park:
Friday: 6 to 11 PM, Saturday, 10:30 AM to 11:30 PM; Sunday, 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM

imagesValentine’s Day is approaching, and those of us who are lacking in the partnership department may feel some type of way regarding a holiday celebrating romantic love. Never fear, there is an alternative in Dallas for the lonely among us in Mockingbird Station’s Anti-Valentine’s Day Bash, going down on Thursday, February 13th at 7:00 PM at The People’s Last Stand.

Not only will there be excellent live blues music (how fitting for the event) from Freddie Jones, but you can also stuff your face with delicious kobe beef sliders from chef Ben Leath, down buckets of beer to wash away your sorrows, bash on heart-shaped piñatas, and more. There will even be temporary tattoo art, pictures with “naughty cupid,” and Trailercakes cupcakes, as well as a candy gift bag, all complementary with the cost of admission. Who knows, perhaps you may even meet a fellow lonesome single out to mingle on Valentine’s Day.

It is $25 to get in, and a portion of the proceeds will go to support the American Heart Association, making this a loveless event with a conscience. We hope to see you there, assuming you don’t have better things to do of the more sexy variety on Valentine’s Day.

Classical Open Mic Night at Buzzbrews Kitchen

Posted by GPGarry | Posted in Beer Events, Drinks, Music Events, Nightlife | Posted on 14-12-2013

One thing you generally do not think when you think “open mic” is classical music, but that might be about to change as Open Classical is putting on classical open mic nights every Tuesday night at Buzzbrews Kitchen on Lemmon Avenue. Taking the stuffy out of the classical genre, this fun and free to attend weekly event features the regular gang of Open Classical performing a night of sweet classical tunes with the interesting catch that all are invited to join in on the fun.

As this is taking place at Buzzbrews, you are certainly more than welcome to enjoy a few liquid libations of the grain-based variety to help get up the gumption to perform with the fine musicians of Open Classical. It is a laid-back affair so don’t be afraid if you aren’t the greatest, mistakes are welcomed and this event is about fun and not perfection. Not only is Buzzbrews Kitchen known for the first word of its namesake, but the food is not too shabby either, hence the “Kitchen” part, so come with an appetite. The event starts at 8 PM every Tuesday night, and please check out the Open Classical official website for more info.
